Yeah, I want something a bit more unique instead of this eco boost mustang. I fell in love with the 2006 cayman s. Any opposition? Reason not to buy?
For the record, I do not own an ecoboostang, but I had been set on that being my new car for a while. I currently own an 11 Mazda 3 hatch that I'll be handing off to my sister. I had a 91 miata that I did a lot of work on, but all the electrics went capoot when I moved, so I exchanged it for $500 with a buddy of mine.

Porsches are unique?! Must have missed that memo.

relative to a Mustang, yes

Unique to themselves. The package sounds nice. 295 ponies, mid engined, 2800lbs really rigid and at this point the 2006 and 07 are affordable. I guess i meant different, not so much unique. I miss rear drive ever since i donated my miata. I loved test driving the ecoboostang, but i still felt like i was missing something.

About 75k Mustang sales per year vs about 3.5k Cayman sales so I'd say so.

Thats what i keep hearing. I need to do research to see if they turn into shit after 70k. Theyre dirt cheap around me (24k-32k; 44k mi - 90k mi)

I didn't say Mustangs were unique. Neither of those cars are.

relative to Mustangs, the Caymans are unique.
I wasn't speaking in absolutes

I like them but the only car I've ever owned without a sunroof was a Miata. I needs me some sunroof (or convertible) action. No sunroof on Cayennes. So I'd just get a Boxster instead.

Do it.
Absolutely.

Eh, I can live with just the experience of the car. I enjoy sunroofs, but hey! They mess with the weight balance! *finger wag*

I think the IMS issue was still somewhat of a risk (albeit a small one) on the pre-2009 cars
But I would still go for it
Cayman S FTW!

OMG these pre-DFI Cayman S engines sound FUCKING AMAZING with iPE exhaust:

I've been thinking about getting one. There's a few responses in my post that might be useful.

They don't require too much in terms of maintenance, for what it is. It won't be as cheap as a new Mustang. Tires and brakes will need some $$. Water pumps grenade themselves and destroy the engine, so mark that as a preventive maintenance item. Something about IMS on the early ones. The maintenance schedules something like 40k and 80k miles will require some dough.

I think it's because they turn to shit after 70k. And they have weird interiors.

Some suffer the same IMS failure as the 911's. I forget what years but I believe it was the earlier ones.

What I'm reading is that the IMS from the 97 - 05 had the most issues. They we're serviceable/removable, but had the most failures. The 06 still suffered, but much less often. Idk. I'm looking at one with 44k miles.
I'll start jumping on forums now...
